We are on the verge of a new season and I, for once, cannot wait.
I think the grey of winter has finally got me and I am really ready for the light, bright mornings and the cool sunshine days.
This year (maybe because I am a little wiser) I have really been conscious of the weather on my skin. I have had quite dry lips for the first time in a long time and even though I am conscious that I need to drink more water to help my body in general, I have found some recent and new skincare items have really helped pull me through winter with brighter and softer skin.
I actually typed the sentence "How to help winter skin" into Google. I thought it was a good idea to put together a few of my own ideas to help anyone else who might be in need of a few remedies or reviews of current beauty products.
Water Water...
As I have already said, hydration is key and I know the biggest help is water. Physically drinking the stuff (and a good amount) has huge health benefits. I MUST drink more. To help and to dress it up a bit I have been enjoying lots of hot water with a slice of orange in. This is quite refreshing and very moreish. I have been trying to enjoy this on an evening sometimes instead of a cup of tea. This is a big help for my skin.
Products wise I have a few new ones that I have found have really made a difference.
Origins Hydrating Mask 'Drink Up'
Oh my goodness, this creamy face mask is amazing. It actually was a gift from a friend but I have been so pleased with it and noticed its genuine results. I have to say, after a day out in a sunny but windy Cambridge with work, I returned to my hotel complaining of red flushed cheeks. It took me a few hours to realise it was actually wind burn and by that point I was so relieved to have packed this in my bag. A pre-bedtime face mask was applied and after 10 minutes I was feeling completely renewed. Following with the below moisturisers and a night's sleep I woke up with no redness and little memory of the fact I had even had wind burnt cheeks.
Origins Energy Boosting Ginzing Gel Moisturisers
This Origins Gel Moisturiser is one of my favourites at the moment. I think purely because it is just a very, very nice moisturiser. Its gel consistency feels ultra light but it leaves skin plumped with hydration. It is to do with its coffee bean and Ginzing extracts that really perk up my skin and actually make it happy. I also love this one in particular as I have another Origins moisturisers that I wouldn't rave about in the same way. The Clear Improvements moisturiser is nice but this Ginzing is amazing by comparison.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
I have become a 'Skinfluencer' for Dermalogica testing out a few of their products. This is one of my new favourites. It is a very fine powder that exfoliates skin and gets rid of old dead cells that are clogging up on the skins surface. This is a very satisfying product and one that I am really enjoying using in my already very stable skin routine. I think what I like most is that it is not another liquid soap with exfoliation beads. One, I am not a fan of anything like that anyway, but I love just mixing this with water in my hands and rubbing over my face. It just feels clean and pure and when putting anything on your skin that is a nice feeling.
Dermalogica Biolumin - C Eyes
All I can say is bye-bye tired eyes! OK, but really, this easy vitamin c eye serum and I have become good friends. We get on very well and my eyes feel just great because of it!
Origins Lip Balm
It was my lips that were really suffering but with a purchase of an Origins Lip balm that has settled. To be honest I have found a lipstick of theirs which I am wearing a lot has also been a great help and together their moisturising capabilities have really made my skin respond.
Pixi Vitamin C
I think an Influx of orange inspired this purchase. I was really looking for something with Vitamin C in it to help brighten my dull and damaged lips. All the above moisturisers and skin treatments were all part of re-moisturising my lips. I would lather them all on during my routines, but this +C Lip Brightener in particular has been great in my handbag and as daily relief.
With all these lovely skin products I haven't even mentioned the benefit of having a new make-up primer and how that is also helping my skin come out of its winter dull.
Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer
I am not a routine primer user. I have never actually found one that I couldn't feel on my skin. This however (gifted) is really lovely. A tinted primer with SPF 30, which is incredible for skin protection, has been worn under my makeup and just by itself too. I am really enjoying this and its protection qualities which also go hand in hand with all the winter skin care I have been doing.
I wanted to share all this information just to help anyone who may be suffering with dull skin from the past few months of dull weather.
Do you have any great skin hydrating products you would recommend?
